If the battery has been recharged by an Interstate Batteries wholesale Distributor, then there will be another date code on the cover of the battery. It will either be a two-digit code that is branded into the cover or on a small, round label on the cover. In each case, the code will be read in the same way as listed above. The battery date code on ACDelco batteries is in the alphanumeric (consisting of letters and numerals) format. The code is usually printed on the battery tag placed on top of your ACDelco battery. The date code can be a bit hard to find especially when other codes such as model and serial numbers also printed on the battery tag. The code here indicates the month and year when the battery was shipped out of the Trojan factory. The code consists of a Letter, which represents the month, A – L (A=January, B=February, C=March, thru L=December). The second character is a Number, which represents the last digit of the year.

A large majority of modern VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda vehicles require the configuration of replacement batteries. The diagnostic steps vary depending on the actual vehicle configuration.

Special Notes

• Some vehicles like Audi R8 along with some rest-of-world models with Stop-Start, can have a 61 that is really a virtual module in the 19-CAN Gateway. In these cases, the new battery information is entered in 61-Battery Regulation then Adaptation Channel 004.

19-CAN Gateway using CAN

This procedure applies to battery replacement in vehicles using a battery management control module that is a slave/subsystem of the CAN Gateway.

Long Adaptation

Installation of a new battery requires the use of the [Long Adaptation-0A] function under 19-CAN-Gateway control module. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the Part Number, Vendor, and Serial Number all as one long new value.

• Measuring Block groups 017, 018, 019 and 020 should show Battery information.

19-CAN Gateway using (UDS/ODX)

This procedure applies to battery replacement in vehicles using a battery management control module that is a slave/subsystem of the CAN Gateway.

Adaptation

Installation of a new battery requires the use of the [Adaptation-10] function under 19-CAN-Gateway control module. Use the drop-down menus to enter the Part Number, Vendor, and Serial Number information located on the new battery .

  • Select the battery Ah rating from the drop-down menu followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]
• Battery adaptation - Manufacturer (this may be something like IDE03256-MAS03159 Battery adaptation - Manufacturer)
  • Select the battery manufacturer from the drop-down menu followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]
• Battery adaptation - Serial number (this may be something like IDE03256-IDE00010 Battery adaptation - Serial number)
  • Type the serial number code from the replacement battery followed by [Do It!] and confirm [Yes]

Providing the value was accepted by the controller the new battery coding is complete.
